Agrokor no longer challenges Sberbank's €460 million claims

Zagreb's Commercial Court on Tuesday established that Agrokor's crisis manager had withdrawn the action whereby this debt-laden conglomerate contested the claims in the amount of HRK 3.4 billion made by Sberbank.

Thus, the claim filings referring to 3.4 billion kuna (€460 million) of the Russian creditor are included in an updated list of claim filings regarded as valid by the crisis administration.

After Agrokor ceased contesting Sberbank’s claims in the amount of 3.6 billion kuna (€487.5 million) in late March, the latest step resulted in the fact that the updated list of claim filings includes over 7 billion kuna (€948 million) of the claims by the bank.

However, the guarantees for that amount in the Russian bank are still being challenged on the ground of challenges made by Agram Invest.

On March 21, Croatia’s indebted retail and food conglomerate Agrokor and its chief creditor, Sberbank, reached an agreement whereby Sberbank was included in settlement negotiations, and Agrokor’s crisis administration recognised Sberbank’s claims, while on the other hand the Russian bank promised to withdraw its suits against the conglomerate.

First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank Maxim Poletaev said today, after talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, that he hoped that a settlement deal in Agrokor would be finalised as soon as possible.

Poletaev said Sberbank had requested a meeting with the Croatian prime minister to discuss the bank’s position in the Agrokor settlement negotiations.
