Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic congratulated the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his election victory on Sunday.
With an 87 percent turnout in the general elections, President Erdogan won another five-year term in the post with 52 percent of the vote. Erdogan has been in power since 2014. His party, the AK Party, won 53 percent of the vote, or 344 seats in the 600-seat Parliament.
“I believe we will continue to work together on the strengthening of our friendship in your new mandate, especially on the economic cooperation where we have an enormous potential for improvement, especially in the fields of trade, investment, tourism and energy,” Grabar-Kitarovic said. “I would also like to stress our cooperation on the strengthening of security, stability and progress of the South-East Europe, with an emphasis on Bosnia and Herzegovina. which I believe is of significant importance for the strengthening of the trilateral mechanism.”
Gragar-Kitarovic added the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Turkey are traditionally friendly countries cooperating in many fields of joint interest, bilaterally, and within the NATO, as well as many other forums.
