Social Democratic Party could soon have a new leader

The leader of the Social Democratic Party, Davor Bernardic, has not managed to consolidate the party for a year and a new party leadership is required, a member of the party’s presidency, Mihael Zmajlovic, told N1.

“Under his leadership, the SDP is no longer a relevant party, the membership’s motivation is low” because of his mistakes, Zmajlovic said.

“We have become a party people joke with, people even laugh about the claims that Davor could be the next prime minister. We can change this only by organising a new party election” he said.

Around 50 party officials have signed a petition asking for Bernardic to step down and “I believe we will bring this to an end by the end of the week,” when the President of the party has to call for a new election, he added.

He said that apart from a number of other names, he believes former member and prime minister Zoran Milanovic would be a good candidate.
