The Venice-bound French eco-friendly ship Energy Observer sailed into the Croatian port of Zadar on Wednesday after she toured around Greek islands and visited the Montenegrin port of Kotor.
The Energy Observer, manned by an eight-member crew, is a hydrogen-powered vessel, launched in April 2017, now on a tour of 101 ports in 50 countries until 2022.
This 30.5-metre-long and 12.8-metre-wide ship was developed in cooperation with engineers from the Grenoble-based CEA-Liten, a major European research institute for development of sustainable energy technologies of the future.
The ship is visiting world-known sites, protected natural areas and places where ecological systems are at risk, the head of this expedition, Jerome Delafosse, said in Zadar.
By travelling around the world we want to show new models of sustainable mobility with a zero carbon emission, he said.
The mission called Energy Observer is supported by the French government, the European Union and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
So far the vessel has visited 21 ports in 10 countries, crossing about 7,500 nautical miles.
