Ultra Europe, a multi-venue outdoor electronic music festival, will start in the Adriatic city of Split on Friday, and around 150,000 partygoers are expected to arrive in Split for the three-day event that will be taking place on six locations around the city.
The festival lasts seven days in total, and on Monday, Ultra party-goers will move to the island of Brac, on Tuesday to the island of Hvar, and after that to the island of Vis.
Preparations for the festival, which is held annually in Croatia since 2013, are completed, the local authorities said.
This year, the visitors will be entertained by world famous DJs, including Carl Cox, Alesso, Jamie Jones, and Afrojack, among others.
Recent editions have featured the likes of David Guetta, deadmau5, and The Chemical Brothers.
“The marketing value of the festival is estimated at at least €25 million,” Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said, adding that the festival’s contribution to the national GDP was roughly the same as that of two or three significant tourism investment projects.
Earlier this year, the government had decided to financially support the festival because of its positive effects on the economy and the promotion of Croatia as a tourist destination.
In 2017, when more than 140,000 visitors from all over the world came to Split for Ultra, the festival generated a turnover of around 525.3 million kuna (€71 million).
Police officers are cooperating very well with tax and customs administrations to prevent and detect any drug dealing and abuse, as well as other criminal offences during the festival, local police chief said.
