The 69th Dubrovnik Summer Festival, to be held from July 10 to August 25, will feature more than 80 drama, music, dance, folklore and other cultural events, which will be performed at 20 site-specific venues in and around the southern city of Dubrovnik.
The festival will feature more than 2,000 artists from around the world, the festival’s artistic director, Dora Ruzdjak-Podolski, said in a news conference.
She added that this year’s festival edition will focus on the mobility and communication of ideas, ways to attract new audiences, the international networking of artists, and the promotion of young artists.
Ruzdjak-Podolski’s assistant for drama, Sasa Bozic, said that the festival would offer some of the best contemporary Croatian theatre plays, with the programme also including insights into new trends in European theatre and contemporary dance.
“We are continuing our work on making Dubrovnik a relevant European destination for site-specific theatre,” said Bozic.
Karolina Rugle, who is in charge of innovative cultural practices, said that the festival’s music programme will feature many collaborations of local, Croatian, and foreign artists, as well as concerts by some of the most prominent names on the music scene.
Superb young artists who have recently won awards at prominent competitions will also perform at the festival, Rugle said.
The Dubrovnik Summer Festival was founded in 1950 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious summer festivals of its kind in Croatia. Organisers said that some 60,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s events.
