The third and final day of the Ultra Europe music festival in Croatia's second city of Split ended in the early hours of Monday morning. On Monday, police made 127 drug-related arrests of Croatian and foreign nationals at the festival. One injured British national was hospitalised, and an American, who was hospitalised on Saturday, died on Sunday.
After three days in Split, the festival will continue by going on a four-day tour around venues on the Adriatic islands of Brac, Hvar, and Vis.
Ultra Europe, a multi-venue outdoor electronic music festival, had started in Split on Friday. Around 150,000 revellers were entertained by famous DJs including Carl Cox, Afrojack, Alesso, Jamie Jones, and Loco Dice.
Local media reported that over the three days, 24 party-goers were taken to hospital, and ambulance staff had to deal with 60 separate emergencies at the stadium, most of which were related to intoxication and drug abuse.
A total of 305 people were arrested during the three-day festival. The largest single bust was an arrest of a 28-year old, who was found on Friday carrying 49 kilogrammes of marijuana. The majority of the arrests were due to disorderly conduct, abuse or dealing of narcotics, and people who tried to enter the party without tickets, local police said.
A 26-year-old American national fell ill at the festival on Saturday and was taken to hospital. Split police reported on Monday that the American died in hospital on Sunday and that the cause of death would be known after the autopsy.
