Croatia's exports reached 42.1 billion kuna (€5.68 billion) in the first five months of 2018, up 1.2 percent from the same period in 2017, while imports rose by 4.7 percent, to 70.6 billion kuna (€9.52 billion), according to initial figures published by the national statistics bureau (DZS) on Monday.

The foreign trade deficit was 28.4 billion kuna (€3.8 billion), an increase of 2.6 billion kuna (€350 million) over the corresponding period last year, while coverage of imports by exports fell from 61.7 percent to 59.7 percent.

Exports to other EU countries increased by 7.6 percent to 29.1 billion kuna (€3.9 billion), while exports to non-EU countries declined by 10.6 percent to 13 billion kuna (€1.75 billion).

Imports from the EU rose by 5.2 percent to 55.68 billion kuna (€7.5 billion) and imports from non-EU countries went up by 2.6 percent to 14.88 billion kuna (€2 billion).
