The volume of gross agricultural production in Croatia in 2017 fell by 8.5 percent compared to 2016, as a consequence in reduced crop farming output, while animal husbandry increased slightly, according to the latest data released by the national statistics bureau.

The lower agriculture output overall is on the one hand a result of the fall in farming output of crops by 15.2 percent, with animal husbandry volume increasing by 0.9 percent.

A fall in output was recorded in almost all types of grains including maize (by 27.6 percent), and wheat (by 28.8 percent), while oilseed production increased, with sunflower up by 4.8 percent, rapeseed by 20.2 percent, and soybean by 14.9 percent.

In animal husbandry, cattle breeding and dairy farming recorded a drop in 2017 compared to 2016. Cattle breeding recorded a fall of 3.2 percent, and there was a drop of 3.3 percent in cow milk production, whereas pig breeding increased by 9.1 percent, and honey production increased by 3.7 percent.

In 2017 crop farming accounted for 54.1 percent of the overall agricultural output while animal husbandry accounted for 45.9 percent.
