This year’s international big game fishing competition, Komiza 2018, is held on July 18-22, and a fleet of some 40 ships from 10 countries will arrive in the fishing town of Komiza to try their hand in catching tuna in the town’s offshore waters.

After a one-year pause, the big game fishing competition on Wednesday came back to the town of Komiza on the Adriatic island of Vis, Slobodna Dalmacija portal reported.

“Apart from the events at sea, where the fishermen will try to catch the biggest tuna, we have prepared excellent entertainment on the land as well, not only for the competitors, but also for our guests. We have organised concerts and festivals on the seafront for all,” the organisers’ representative Tonci Bozanic said.

This year, the visitors will enjoy the culinary event Street Fish Food Festival, where the masters of sea delicacies will prepare the best of seafood for all.

A children’s competition Little Game is also organised, and on Saturday morning children up to 14 years old will go out on traditional Komiza fishing boats (falkusa) to give fishing a try.

The most successful will win a visa for the next year’s Offshore World Championship Costa Rica, the largest and most prestigious sportfishing tournament series in the world.
