Croatia gets its own Monopoly edition

Winning Moves

Croatian edition of the world’s bestselling board game Monopoly, the first that features places from all over the country, hit the shelves last Friday, a year after the project was first announced.

“We are thrilled that the company Winning Moves, which creates licensed editions of the game Monopoly, decided to include our beautiful Croatia among the countries around the world with their own editions,” said Ksenija Brnat, marketing category director at AWT International, a leading goods distributor in the region.

Monopoly has become a part of popular culture since it was first sold in 1930s, and local editions have been sold for over 17 years. Croatia has now joined the 111 countries which have got their own editions of the wildly popular board game.

“Monopoly Croatia was a truly exciting project. People from all over Croatia and the world, even all the way from Australia, have sent their suggestions for the cities, natural and cultural landmarks they wanted to see on the board game Monopoly Croatia,” said Lazar Vukovic, Head of Balkans and Russia for Winning Moves.

People sent their suggestions via e-mail and shared them on the official Monopoly Croatia Facebook page for 30 days at the beginning of last year, and places such as the Plitvice National Park, the Adriatic city of Dubrovnik, the islands of Hvar and Brac, the baroque city of Varazdin, and many others, have been selected from over 5,000 landmarks to make the final cut.

One older Croatian version of Monopoly, approved by the creator Parker Brothers and featuring streets in the Croatian capital Zagreb, was published in 1994.

This edition can be bought on numerous locations all over the country, Brnat said.
