Three Israeli F-16 Barak multi-purpose fighter jets landed on Thursday at Croatia’s Pleso military air base on a friendly visit by Israeli air force to Croatia, Croatian Defence Ministry said.

The jets were welcomed in Croatian airspace by a Croatian airforce MiG-21 jet, which accompanied them to Pleso.

The government had in March this year unanimously adopted a decision on the procurement of 12 F-16 fighter jets from Israel, which will cost €390 million over a ten year period. Defence Minister Damir Krsticevic had said that was one of the biggest decisions made in the Croatian defence sector after the 1990s war of independence.

The jets will take part in commemorating the Storm military operation anniversary on Sunday, August 5, which will take place in the southern Croatian town of Knin. The jets will fly over the town, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at a press conference on Thursday.
