The ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of the nuclear bomb attack on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, the first ever such attack in history, was held on Monday, the Beta news agency reported.

An estimated 50,000 people attended the ceremony, including residents of Hiroshima and representatives from 58 countries around the world, including the US Ambassador to Japan, William Hagerty.

The officials remembered the killed and injured and called for eliminating of nuclear weapons.

The sky was as clear as it had been on August 6, 1945, when, at 08:15 local time the American bomber B-29 Enola Gay dropped the nuclear bomb known as ‘Little Boy’ from the altitude of 9,600 metres. It exploded 43 seconds later, 600 metres above the ground. On that day, and a few weeks after, an estimated 140,000 people died.
