The 3. Maj shipyard's bank account has been unblocked after it had been frozen on Friday, the company, which is part of the Uljanik Group, reported on Tuesday.
“The 3. maj shipyard company wishes to inform the public that the company’s commercial accounts are no longer blocked,” a brief statement from the shipyard based in the northern port city of Rijeka said.
Replying to a query from the Zagreb Stock Exchange on Friday, the shipyard’s management said the company’s account had been briefly blocked, and added that the restructuring programme of the Uljanik docks would create preconditions to intensify the production of ships of the Uljanik Group, which includes the 3. Maj shipyard.
Meanwhile, unions at the Uljanik shipyard based in the city of Pula, which is part of the same company, are set to meet today with the company’s management board as part of conciliation proceedings which started last week after workers did not receive their salaries for July.
The Uljanik shipyard employs some 4,500 workers, who have announced they would go on strike on Wednesday if their salaries – scheduled to be paid by August 15 – are not paid out by Tuesday.
According to media speculations the government is considering acquiring a stake at the troubled company, allowing it to pump in some 100 million kuna (€13.5 million) into the company to save it from bankruptcy.
