Bosnia’s association of journalists harshly condemned the most recent attack on the reporters of the Bosnian state broadcaster BHRT, which happened in the southern town of Konjic on Monday evening.
“What we expect at this moment is that the competent police and judicial institutions urgently find and adequately punish the perpetrators, to start doing their job when it comes to media, that is,” the Association of Journalists of Bosnia and Herzegovina said.
A group of masked persons assaulted the BHRT crew, which reported from the Siroki Brijeg – Sarajevo football match. The reporters’ driver was injured and their vehicle damaged.
The journalists’ association expressed the concern over the increasing number of attacks on media representatives, the brutality of the attacks and calls for lynching of those not expressing the same opinion in their appearances in media.
They called on the relevant institutions to enable uninterrupted work of media outlets and ensure fundamental conditions for their work.
Freedom of the media is one of the fundaments of free societies and disabling the media from free work pushes the country further from the European values, the association said.
