The Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) on Thursday issued a press release distancing the organisation from moves made by reporter-turned-activist Iva Anzulovic who two days ago threw a bucket full of faeces at the entrance to the government building in protest against what she says is widespread corruption in the country.
She did the same on August 8 when she emptied a bucket of dog faeces outside the building of the State Prosecutor’s Office.
During her protest actions Anzulovic was wearing a t-shirt with a picture of late Vukovar journalist Sinisa Glavasevic and “J’accuse, gentlemen” written on it.
“In a press release Anzulovic forwarded following her move, she referred to our eminent deceased journalists – Jasna Babic, Predrag Lucic, and Sinisa Glavasevic – who exclusively used the power of the pen and the power of arguments and journalistic professional standards in their professional life,” the HND said.
They added that emptying buckets full of faeces, while claiming that it is being done in the name of those reporters, is an unseemly act, and although Anzulovic is one of its members, she carried out those actions on her own.
Throwing buckets full of faeces at institutions or people does not represent journalism, the HND said, underlining that a journalist is a person who complies with professional ethics and rules.
