Number of unemployed in Aug 2018 drops 21.7 pct on the year

A total of 134,111 job-seekers were registered with the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) at the end of August 2018, which is 1.5 percent fewer than in the previous month, and 21.7 percent fewer than in August 2017, the HZZ said on Monday.

It was the eighth month in a row to see unemployment fall on a monthly basis.

The latest figures show that 132,086 people are currently out of work, with 16,254 vacancies advertised.

The HZZ said that 13,362 unemployed people were newly registered in August 2018, down 19.2 percent from August 2017.

The largest number of job-seekers was registered in the Split-Dalmatia County (21,476 or 16 percent of all unemployed people in Croatia), followed by the City of Zagreb (18,325 or 13.7 percent) and Osijek-Baranja County (17,128 or 12.8 percent).

The smallest number of unemployed persons was recorded in the Lika-Senj County (1,631 or 1.2 percent).
