Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said on Sunday that she has a "good relationship" with the US President Donald Trump on Sunday, and added that he is in favour of signing a US-Croatia agreement on double taxation.
Her remarks came during a meeting with members of the Croatian community in New York on Sunday, where she is on official visit.
Croatia is one of only three NATO countries that don’t have a double taxation agreement with Washington, with the local American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) repeatedly calling on both countries to work towards signing the agreement, including a formal proposal put foward to to the US government in April.
On Sunday, Grabar-Kitarovic met with the Croatian community in New York and attended a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the National Federation of Croatian Americans Cultural Foundation (NFCA).
She told the Croatian community that she has a “good relationship” with President Trump, whom she met on several occasions, most recently in July in Brusssels, when she says he told her he would spur his administration into dolving the double taxation problem between the two countries.
Grabar-Kitarovic had arrived in New York to attend a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, and is scheduled to hold 18 bilateral meetings with international officials on its margins.
She will also attend a series of accompanying events during her week-long stay in New York, including the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, conferences on anti-Semitism, drug abuse, climate change, UNICEF-sponsored meeting on youth, and the Bloomberg Global Business Forum.
