Since the beginning of 2018 to September 28, slightly more than 100 million tourist bed nights were registered in Croatia, which is a month earlier than in 2017, the national tourist board (HTZ) reported on Friday.

The data was collected by the eVisitor electronic registry system, which includes statistics about overnight stays in hotels, marinas, and other facilities.

Tourism Minister, Gari Cappelli, and HTZ managing director, Kristjan Stanicic, said that the increasing numbers of overnight stays and visits are the outcome of the sector's better performance in shoulder seasons.

As many as 18 million tourists have visited Croatia so far this year, and by country of origin the most numerous were arrivals from Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

The most sought-after destinations in the country this year were coastal cities of Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Porec, Medulin and Split.
