Croatia and Hungary on Tuesday signed an agreement on the use, maintenance and reconstruction of road bridges across the border rivers of Mura and Drava, the Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure said on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed in Budapest by Croatian Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, and Hungarian Innovation and Technology Minister Laszlo Palkovics.

Under the agreement, Croatia will ensure the use, maintenance and reconstruction of two bridges across the River Drava – a bridge between Terezino Polje (Croatia) and Barcs (Hungary) and a bridge between Donji Miholjac and Dravaszabolcs.

Hungary will ensure the use, maintenance and reconstruction of two bridges across the River Mura – one bridge on a state road between Gorican on the Croatian side and Letenye in Hungary, and the other on a highway between Gorican and Letenye.

The two ministers discussed Croatia-Hungary transport relations, the status of border infrastructure projects, investments in infrastructure of common interest, and specific projects such as the construction of the 5C corridor, connecting southern Croatian port of Ploce, Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Croatian eastern city of Osijek, and Hungary’s capital Budapest. They also discussed the revitalisation of the Osijek-Pecs railway.

They put special emphasis on the construction of railway infrastructure and activities regarding the construction of logistics centres to connect Budapest and Croatia’s northern Adriatic port of Rijeka.
