Lonely Planet, one of the world's most popular travel guides, published its annual Best in Travel 2019 list, recommending must-see travel destinations around the world for the following year, which included the Croatian city of Zadar as one of the top ten cities to visit in 2019, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) reported on Tuesday.

Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel campaign compiles must-visit cities, regions, countries, as well as best-value destinations for the next year. The selection process includes a team of experts and Lonely Planet’s community members.

“To see Zadar included on the list of top cities for 2019 is a great thing for Croatian tourism as a whole. It is a confirmation of quality offer of the destination, as well as the reputation Zadar enjoys on the world stage,” said HTZ director Kristjan Stanicic.

Zadar made the list alongside Kopenhagen (Denmark), Shēnzhèn (China), Novi Sad (Serbia), Miami (US) Kathmandu (Nepal), Mexico City (Mexico), Dakar (Senegal), Seattle (US), and Meknès (Morocco).

Lonely Planet described Zadar as a “spirited cosmopolitan city”, where visitors can “discover cool bars and laidback cafes, ancient Roman ruins, innovative museums and rustic, trattoria-style restaurants.”
