Some 9.9 million passengers passed through Croatia's airports over the first ten months of 2018, a 10.5 percent increase from the same period the year before, the state statistics bureau said on Monday.

In October alone, the volume of passenger traffic was up by 11.7 percent year-on-year, to reach 905,000 travellers.

The busiest of the country’s nine airports was Zagreb Airport, with 317,000 passengers, or 6.7 percent up from October 2017.

Zagreb was followed by Dubrovnik Airport, with 243,000 passengers or 12.9 percent up year-on-year, and Split Airport with 223,000 passengers, or 13.9 percent up.

The biggest year-on-year increases were posted by Rijeka Airport, which had under 15,500 passengers in October 2018, or 64.9 percent up year-on-year, and Pula Airport, with little more than 41,800 passengers, or 35.6 percent up. Zadar Airport recorded some 57,400 passengers, or 3.2 percent up from the same month last year, and Osijek Airport received 6,400 passengers, or 14.2 percent more.

By country of origin, the passengers processed by Croatian airports mainly came from Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Austria, and the Netherlands.

In addition, there was a total of 1,138 tonnes of cargo processed by Croatia’s airports in October 2018, or 1.5 up year-on-year. Over the first ten months of the year, a total of 10,257 tonnes of cargo were handled, or 28.7 percent up from the same period last year.
