Open-air celebrations on New Year's Eve were traditionally organised in the main square of the Croatian capital of Zagreb, as well as in other major cities, with entertainment programmes and firework displays at the start of 2019.

Pop and rock groups gave concerts in the night between Monday and Tuesday in Zagreb’s main square, with city mayor Milan Bandic greeting the spectators at midnight.

Thousands of people flocked to the Croatian coastal cities of Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Split, and Dubrovnik for the New Year outdoor parties.

A traditional New Year’s Eve marathon race was organised in the northern city of Varazdin, with over 400 participants taking part in the event.

No major incidents were reported in any of the celebrations.
