Second victim of Dubrovnik hydro plant blaze pulled from sea

The body of another worker who died after a fire broke out at the a hydropower plant near the southern Adriatic city of Dubrovnik on Thursday was found later in the evening floating in the sea off the town of Cavtat.

Earlier on Thursday, body of another worker was recovered from a drainage canal leading from the hydro plant to the open sea, and the search for the third worker who is still unaccounted for is still under way.

After a fire broke out at the power plant on Thursday morning, six workers operating the plant were evacuated and hospitalised, while another three went missing.

The plant, located on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, is only 550 metres from the Adriatic coast, and some 15 kilometres south-east from the port city of Dubrovnik.

The three workers who went missing are thought to have tried to escape the burning plant by swimming through a 500-metre drainage canal.

After the blaze had been put under control on Thursday afternoon, rescue divers found a the body of the first worker. The search for the third man was still under way on Friday.
