N1 television had the largest year-on-year viewership increase out of all channels measured by AGB Nielsen in 2018, the agency's report released last month said.
In January 2019, the viewership of N1, measured in terms of viewers per minute, skyrocketed 189 percent compared to the same month in 2018. N1 was followed by the state broadcaster’s HTV2 channel, which posted a 17 percent increase in viewership year-on-year. N1 was launched in Croatia in 2014.
While the viewership of the state-run HTV1 only posted a 1 percent increase last year, the two major private-owned channels RTL and Nova TV dropped by 6 percent.
In terms of IPTV channels, the Fox group of channels – which is considered N1’s direct competitor posted drops, ranging from 14 percent in case of the National Geographic channel, to as high as 54 percent recorded by Fox Crime.
In the entire cable television market, the only other channels which increased viewership figures were RTL Crime, by 4 percent, and RTL Living, by 2 percent.
This trend continued in the first half of February this year, in which N1’s viewership was 109 percent up from the same period 12 months ago. In the same period, RTL followed by a 12 percent increase, with Fox coming in third with a 11 percent year-on-year increase.
