Bosnaian LGBT activists announced on Monday that the country's first Pride Parade would take place on September 8, adding that the goal of the event is to improve the status of LGBT persons in Bosnia's society at large.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina is finally getting its Pride Parade which will be organised on September 8 in Sarajevo,” the Sarajevo Open Centre announced at a press conference.
According to Croatian state agency Hina, the initative was started by activists from five major cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Banja Luka, Bijeljina, Prijedor, Tuzla, and the capital Sarajevo.
“Bosnia will finally get its Pride parade, an event which is is a form of protest against inequality and violationm of rights of lesbian, day, bisexual, trans-gender, inter-sex, and queer persons. It represents the fight against violence, and requires the same kind of access to public space that all other men and women citizens have, who are entitled to organise any other kind of protest,” a member of the organising committee, Branko Culibrk, was quoted as saying by Croatia’s state agency Hina.
