One of Croatia’s most wanted fugitives, a suspect thought to be involved in a cocaine trafficking ring was arrested on Saturday on the Serbia-Hungary border, Croatian Interior Ministry reported on Tuesday.

Darjan Jesovnik, a dual national of Slovenia and Montenegro, was on the run since 2011 and was listed in Croatia’s and Europe’s most wanted fugitives for years, after a European arrest warrant had been issued for him.

He is under suspicion of taking part in a large cocaine smuggling operation which saw him and members of his criminal group smuggle at least 718 kilogrammes of cocaine from South America to Croatia, Slovenia, Spain, and the Netherlands.

All other members of the group have previously been arrested in Spain, Croatia, and Serbia, with only Jesovnik at large until Saturday.

Jesovnik is currently held in custody in the northern Serbian town of Subotica, and was set a 30-day detention pending extradition to Croatia.
