Serbia and Hungary have no unresolved political issues, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said after a joint session of the two neighbouring countries’ governments in the northern city of Subotica.
“We have developed a number of ideas since our previous meeting such as the construction of a fruit processing plan worth 7.5 million Euros in Serbia by a Hungarian company,” she told the session, adding that this is one of the first Hungarian investments outside the northern province of Vojvodina which borders with Hungary and has a large ethnic Hungarian population.
Brnabic said that Hungary is Serbia’s third largest trade partner with trade reaching 1.7 billion Euros in 2018. The two governments signed 11 agreements and memoranda.
Several ministers had separate one-on-one meetings before the cabinet session.
Foreign Ministers Ivica Dacic and Péter Szijjártó said cooperation between the two countries was constantly improving, adding that energy stability and infrastructure links are future priorities, a statement said.
Simplified border procedures were announced by Infrastructure, Traffic and Construction Minister Zorana Mihajlovic and Hungary’s Minister of Technology and Innovation Laszlo Palkovics with Mihajlovic saying that an agreement on this is important for the competitiveness and development of both countries.
Border procedures were also discussed by Internal Affairs Ministers Nebojsa Stefanovic and Sandor Pinter. They want more efficient checks and shorter waits at border crossings. A statement quoted Stefanovic as saying that the important thing is to keep security levels high at the borders.
