The list of UNESCO Global Geoparks includes eight new sites in South America, Asia and Europe, with Croatia's Vis Archipelago among the three in Europe, UNESCO's Executive Board has decided, according to Agence France-Presse.

They are witnesses of geological diversity, UNESCO said this week after expanding the list on Wednesday to 147 parks from 41 countries.

Previously, the Papuk Nature Park was Croatia’s only site on UNESCO’s Global Geoparks list.

The other two European locations added to the list are O Courel in Spain and Trollfjell in Norway.
