Justice Minister Drazen Bosnjakovic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said on Monday that he did not think that the four seats the party won in elections for the European Parliament were a failure but he did announce that party bodies would analyse the result.

“I would not describe (the result) as a failure,” Bosnjakovic told reporters on the margins of a conference on the relationship between the media and the judiciary and regulations on hate speech.

“We did set the goal of five seats in the EP, we were very close to winning the fifth seat and now it is up to the party’s bodies to analyse the situation and see where things could have been better,” said Bosnjakovic.

Commenting on candidate Mislav Kolakusic’s “election success based on his criticism of the situation in the judiciary”, Bosnjakovic said that citizens had been unhappy with the judiciary for many years even though figures in that regard had been improving by the year.

“Improvement does not happen overnight, it is a process… we have a plan, we have a platform and one of the main measures for the future is digitisation,” the minister said, adding that conditions were being created for the digitisation of the judiciary and that once it was fully done, the judiciary’s better performance would be much more visible.
