The EU 28 unemployment rate in June remained unchanged compared to May, while Croatia recorded one of the biggest decreases on the year, according to a Eurostat report released on Wednesday.

The EU28 seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.3 percent in June 2019, stable compared with May 2019, remaining the lowest rate recorded in the EU28 since the start of the EU monthly unemployment series in January 2000.

In June 2018, the unemployment rate in the EU28 was 6.8 percent.

Eurostat estimates that 15.7 million men and women in the EU28 were unemployed in June 2019.

Compared with May 2019, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 36,000 in the EU28. Compared with June 2018, unemployment fell by 1.2 million in the EU28.

Among the member states, the lowest unemployment rates in June 2019 were recorded in the Czech Republic (1.9 percent) and Germany (3.1 percent), while the highest rates were observed in Greece (17.6 percent in April 2019) and Spain (14.0 percent).

In Croatia, the unemployment rate in June 2019 was 7.1 percent, stable compared with May, Eurostat’s revised data shows. In June, 127,000 Croatians were out of work, down 29,000 on the year.

In Croatia, the unemployment rate in June fell by 1.5 percentage points year on year. The largest decreases were recorded by Greece (2.2 percentages points), Cyprus (1.8pp), Ireland (1.4pp) and Slovakia (1.3pp).
