The telecommunications company Hrvatski Telekom (HT) has been ordered by the High Misdemeanour Court to pay a fine of HRK 28.1 million (€3.8 million), the highest fine ever imposed on a telecom operator in Croatia, for failure to present the HAKOM regulatory agency with retail prices at which it sold its services between 2015 and 2016.

HT told Hina on Wednesday it considered the fine inappropriate and was looking into further legal steps, while HAKOM said that HT had to pay the fine within 30 days of the court ruling becoming final.

“If, within this time frame, the company pays two-thirds of the fine, it will be considered to be paid in full,” the agency said in response to Hina’s query. “Any recourse to an extraordinary remedy does not stay the execution of the ruling,” it added.

In 2016, HAKOM initiated an inspection because certain service packages were not indicated in HT’s official price list. It then filed a lawsuit with the Municipal Misdemeanour Court and won the case in April this year. The ruling was upheld by the High Misdemeanour Court on Tuesday.
