The presidential candidate of the ruling HDZ party, incumbent Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, said on Monday she would resume her re-election campaign later this week due to Christmas.
“Expecting the feast day of Jesus’s birth has always been special for my family. I will spend Christmas and Christmastime with my dearest ones as, I believe, will you,” she posted on Facebook.
She added that “we should not divide each other politically when we should be together and when all of Croatia should breathe as one in love for our dear ones and those in need.”
“Politics must not steal Christmas from us,” Grabar-Kitarovic said.
She is running in a January 5 runoff against Zoran Milanovic, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party and 12 other opposition parties.
