Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic extended Christmas greetings on Wednesday and said it was necessary to find a model to reduce work on Sundays as much as possible.

“I’d like to wish a merry Christmas, lots of faith, love, hope and mutual respect and tolerance. I wish that all spend Christmas with their dearest ones, with their families, and that we all together see to those who need the help of the community,” Jandrokovic told reporters ahead of Christmas Mass at Zagreb Cathedral.

Although he would not talk about politics, he commented on Economy Minister Darko Horvat’s recent statement that his ministry was examining how work on Sundays was regulated in neighbouring countries.

“One should find a model that is compatible with European models. A similar example is Austria, reducing work on Sundays as much as possible. There are services which must work on Sundays, but all that is not necessary should not work on that day.”

Veterans Minister Tomo Medved also wished a merry Christmas to believers, “notably all veterans and disabled war veterans. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who suffered the most in the Homeland War, with the families of our fallen, dead and missing defenders.”

Asked about the government’s measures for 2020, he said the focus at the beginning of the year would be on civilian Homeland War victims and on “completing the normative segment related to the population of Homeland War veterans and victims.”
