The Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday summoned Serbian ambassador to Podgorica, Vladimir Bozovic, over "the constant attacks on the Montenegrin flag and the Embassy of Montenegro in Belgrade."
The Montenegrin ministry branded the burning the Montenegrin flag in front of the embassy in Serbia as “a completely unacceptable nationalist act.”
Hundreds of supporters of the Crvena Zvezda basketball club protested on Thursday evening in front of the Montenegrin embassy in the centre of Belgrade attempting to set a Montenegrin flag on fire.
“The assault on the embassy and state symbols of a neighbouring country and a NATO member is an unacceptable nationalist act. Considering the fact the attack on the embassy had been announced two days beforehand and lasted for more than an hour, it is incomprehensible that the Serbian security services did next to nothing to prevent the pyrotechnical orgies and the assault on the state symbols of Montenegro,” the Montenegrin ministry said in a statement.
The Montenegrin ministry called on the Serbian government to “prevent such incidents that can have a negative effect on the bilateral relations between the two states.”
