In January 2020 there were 1.52 million Croatians in employment, up by 2.3 percent year-on-year but down by 1.4 percent compared to December 2019.
At the same time, the registered unemployment rate was at 8.4 percent, or 0.5 percentage points up month-on-month, data released by the state statistics bureau showed.
By sector, the largest year-on-year increase of employed work force was in construction, by 9.7 percent, and the biggest drop was in manufacturing, by 0.9 percent.
According to data collected by the national employment bureau HZZ, close to 140,000 people were registered as unemployed in January, which is 6.2 percent up from December but 11.9 percent down compared to January 2019.
