Out of 49 elderly residents evacuated from a nursing home in the city of Split, 40 have tested positive for the new coronavirus, KBC Split hospital confirmed on Thursday evening.
The nursing home was evacuated earlier this week after several cases of infection had been confirmed there. On Wednesday, ten residents tested positive in the first batch of testing, and on Thursday another 30 cases were confirmed.
The latest confirmed cases put the total number of confirmed cases in Croatia’s Split-Dalmatia County at 276.
By Thursday afternoon, before the 30 new infections were confirmed, Croatia had recorded a total of 1,407 cases, including 20 deaths and 219 recoveries.
Over the last seven days, national health authorities reported 40-60 new cases every day, translating to a daily rate of increase of close to 5 percent.
