Croatia has confirmed 36 new cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, which brings their total to 2,161, Health Minister Vili Beros told a daily press conference on Friday.
Twenty-five of the new cases were registered in Split-Dalmatia County, five in Osijek-Baranja County, three in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, and one each in Koprivnica-Krizevci County, Sibenik-Knin County and Slavonski Brod-Posavina County.
Beros said that 22 cases had been confirmed on the southern island of Brac and one on the nearby island of Hvar.
“Let this be a lesson to us, there is no relaxing. We must continue to be cautious and maintain physical distance. One wrong step and we are back to square one,” the health minister said.
In the last 24 hours 1,448 people have been tested, and no one has died. The death toll currently stands at 86.
A total of 184 infected people are in hospitals, 11 fewer than on Thursday, and 13 are on ventilators; 651 patients have been discharged from health institutions, 21 more than on Thursday, and 27 have recovered at home.
Interior Minister: Brac Island could go into lockdown
Due to the increased number of novel coronavirus infections on the island of Brac, there is a possibility the island will be quarantined while the lockdown in the rest of the country continues to be gradually lifted, Interior Minster Davor Bozinovic said.
“Today’s increase in the number of infections is connected with two localities, one is Brac and the other is (eastern city of) Osijek. We know who the contacts in Osijek are. The situation on Brac is a more significant change compared to the situation of several days ago,” he said.
