The value of Croatia's exports in the first five months of 2020 amounted to 41.9 billion kuna (€5.5 billion), or 9 percent down in from the same period in 2019. In the same period, imports dropped by 14.4 percent to 68.5 billion kuna (€9 billion), the state stistics bureau DZS said on Thursday.

The total foreign trade deficit in the period from January to May was 26.5 billion kuna (€3.5 billion), while the coverage of imports by exports was 61.3 percent.

Exports to other EU member states in the January-May 2020 period reached 29.6 billion (€3.9 billion), down 5.3 percent year-on-year, and imports from those countries fell by 15.5 percent to 55.1 billion kuna (€7.3 billion).

Exports to non-EU countries contracted by 16.7 percent to 12.3 billion kuna (€1.6 billion) and imports dropped by 9.4 percent to 13.4 billion kuna (€1.8 billion).
