Montenegro on Tuesday received the last, fourth contingent of €3 million worth of medical equipment donated by the European Union.

The first contingent of medical equipment necessary for the fight against COVID-19 was shipped in April.

The entire donation includes 100 hospital ventilators, 10 X-ray devices and over 400,000 pieces of protective equipment.

At the takeover ceremony, the head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Aivo Orav, said that the ventilators and equipment would considerably improve the country’s healthcare capacity and help save the lives of the most critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Montenegro currently has 322 ventilators.

There are now 320 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Montenegro, the country’s MINA news agency reports.

By comparison, there are 198 active cases of the infection per 100,000 inhabitants in North Macedonia, 167 in Kosovo, 157 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 67 in Albania, 21 in Croatia and 12 in Slovenia.
