Drazen Barisic has resigned as chairman of the HDZ's Zagreb County branch, the ruling party said on Monday evening.

Barisic was arrested last week after he was stripped of immunity as a member of parliament. He is one of a score of people suspected of corruption, influence-peddling and bribery in a case involving the JANAF oil pipeline operator. He denied any involvement in said crimes.

The HDZ also said that Barisic suspended his parliamentary mandate and that he entrusted his deputy with conducting his duties as the mayor of Velika Gorica.
