Germany on Wednesday added regions from 11 European countries, including Croatia's Lika-Senj County, on its list of coronavirus risk zones, shattering the last hope for reviving tourism at a time when many countries "brace for a possible second wave of the pandemic", Reuters reported.
New entries on the Robert Koch Institute’s list include popular tourist destinations, such as French regions Centre-Val de Loire, Brittany and Normandy, Lika-Senj County in Croatia and the Littoral–Inner Carniola Statistical Region in Slovenia.
The list also includes the capitals of Ireland, Portugal and Denmark, the Dutch province of Utrecht, the Austrian federal state of Vorarlberg, most of the Czech Republic, the county of Gyor in western Hungary and the Romanian county of Covasna.
Areas are normally put on the list of epidemiologically risky regions after the Foreign Ministry issues a recommendation against non-essential travel to a specific region.
Germany warns against travel to an area in the European Union when the rate of COVID-19 infections exceeds the level of 50 per 100,000 population in a week, Reuters recalls.
To date, areas in Croatia that Germany has put on its list of epidemiologically risky regions include Dubrovnik-Neretva, Pozega-Slavonia, Sibenik-Knin, Split-Dalmatia, Slavonski Brod-Posavina, Virovitica-Podravina and Zadar counties.
All travellers returning from a region on the list must get tested for coronavirus and self-isolate until they get their test results.
