Slovenian epidemiologists on Tuesday warned that the situation in the country regarding the coronavirus was critical after 99 new cases were registered in the past 24 hours while Prime Minister Janez Jansa was calming the public.
Several epidemiologists in the government’s expert Covid-19 response team consider that the number of new infections being at the same level as last week is concerning.
However, Jansa said that the situation is not dramatic. “Despite the increased number compared to the first wave of the epidemic in the spring, the situation is still under control as we have fewer people in hospital treatment,” said Jansa.
He recalled that at the end of March there were almost 120 Covid-19 patients in hospital care and now that number is significantly lower and they have milder symptoms.
He underscores that the government and health system had learned a lot from the first wave and are now reacting better.
He admitted that there are some weak spots but underlined that more stringent restrictions were not on the cards. “The situation can still be controlled and we can act without introducing more stringent measures,” underlined Jansa.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic in that country, Slovenia has registered 2,382 cases of the infection and 149 people have died.
