US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday that the United States of America would continue its engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina in a dedicated manner, after the Croatian leadership informed him in Dubrovnik about Zagreb's view on the political situation in that country, Croatian media reported on Friday.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlic-Radman talked with Pompeo about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead of the local elections set for 15 November.
According to Hina, the state news agency, the Croatian officials stressed the need for “adequate and legitimate representation of the Croatian people” in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political institutions, that is, for respecting the Dayton-Paris peace agreement signed 25 years ago.
Prime Minister made the statement in a week when leaders of the leading Bosniak and Croat parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bakir Izetbegovic and Dragan Covic, visited Zagreb and about two weeks after Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik visited the Croatian capital.
We will continue with our engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Pompeo, admitting that the complexity of that country could not be fully addressed in the few minutes of a press conference.
We will make sure that a good outcome for Europe, for Croats and for people in the region is achieved there, said Pompeo, and added that the USA has an incredible diplomatic engagement in Southeast Europe.
