Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Monday expressed support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, offering Croatia's experience with the peaceful reintegration of its Danube region, the government said in a press release.

Plenkovic met in Zagreb with Oleksii Reznikov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine. He expressed Croatia’s support for the territorial integrity and European path of Ukraine as well as the importance of peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Plenkovic reiterated Croatia’s willingness to relay to Ukraine its experience with the peaceful reintegration of the Danube region, which was successfully completed on 15 January 1998, three years after the end of the 1991-1995 Homeland War.

The press release said that the government working group on cooperation between Croatia and Ukraine remained an important institutional instrument for the development of further relations and transfer of Croatian experience.

The meeting also focused on cooperation in mine clearance operations and the application of the Croatian model of searching for missing persons. Satisfaction was expressed with the rise in economic cooperation between the two countries and the launch of a direct flight service between Kiev and Zagreb.

Reznikov and Boris Milosevic, the Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Human Rights, discussed the position of the Ukrainian minority in Croatia, the implementation of legislation on the protection of rights of ethnic minorities in Croatia, and the process of peaceful reintegration of the eastern regions of Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem into the Croatian constitutional system after the 1991-1995 war.

Reznikov also met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Veterans’ Affairs, Tomo Medved, with whom he discussed the peaceful reintegration process.

Medved stressed the importance of saving every human life and of peaceful resolution of conflicts. He expressed a readiness to continue the successful cooperation in the transfer of knowledge and experience in establishing an effective care system for war victims in Ukraine, the press release said.
