MP Dalija Oreskovic of the Party with a Name and Surname, confirmed on Friday that her law firm had done business with JANAF, noting that she did not see anything controversial about it nor had she kept that fact secret but that she did not think that she should have made it public.
“I do not consider my representing JANAF to be controversial. My business was legal, I was an attorney, I shared my office with my soon to be ex-husband. This was a one-off job regarding the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation and I do not see how that can be put in the same context with a corruption scandal,” Oreskovic told reporters in parliament after Nova TV released the information.
My political associates had known about that information, as had numerous reporters, Oreskovic added.
Asked if it would have been much more transparent if she had reported this to the public on her own, before reporters did, Oreskovic said that she had nothing against the matter being examined.
Law firms were not the only ones to have done business with JANAF, many companies did, Oreskovic said, asking if it was disputable now that those companies had done business with JANAF or if what was actually controversial were corruption scandals and deals sealed outside of business offices.
“I do not regret not having informed the public on my own because I would have been accused of trying to draw public attention and advertise my former husband’s law firm,” Oreskovic said, adding that had she spoken about having done business with JANAF, it could also have been considered a breach of professional ethics.
