Protective security arrangements for high office holders in Croatia are being tightened, the Jutarnji List daily reported on Friday.

This will mean the increased presence of security guards for the top state officials, including the president, the parliament speaker, the prime minister, the ministers of defence and interior affairs and their families.

Also, more police cars can be expected in official motorcades. High office-holders will be transported in armored cars, when it is necessary and in accordance with security control assessments.

A source from the police told the daily that those measures would go in place immediately.

The plan to stepping up security measures was prompted by Monday’s shooting when a 22-year-old gunman opened fire at the police outside Government House in St Mark’s Square in Zagreb. In the incident, a police officers sustained serious injuries, and the gunman later committed suicide.
