The Serbian health authorities said on Friday that of the 7,429 persons tested for the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, 265 had tested positive and two had died, noting that there was no need to close the border for the time being.

Health statistics show that 365 people infected with the virus are hospitalised, including 23 who are on ventilators.

So far, 1,227,337 people have been tested, of whom 35,719 have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and 772 patients have died.

A member of the country’s crisis management team, Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, said that a decision adopted earlier in the day making the wearing of face masks outdoors compulsory was changed in the meantime to a recommendation as the team realised that it was not possible to control its implementation.

She said that the decision not to close the border could be changed in the coming period.
