Social Democratic Party (SDP) vice-president Sinisa Hajdas Doncic has said that his party will have its own candidate in local elections in Zagreb and that he is not in favour of the SDP supporting the candidacy of the leader of the We Can! political platform, Tomislav Tomasevic.
The next local elections will be held in May 2021.
“I believe that the SDP branch in Zagreb must have its own candidate (for Zagreb mayor) but we still do not have a concrete name. I think we will have it by December 15. This week the SDP Presidency will meet and all party branches will be instructed to put forward their nominations by December. The SDP will have a candidate for Zagreb,” Hajdas Doncic said in an interview with Nova TV on Sunday.
Speaking of measures that are being adopted in the fight against the coronavirus, the SDP official said they were insufficient.
“In ten days or so we will have more than 10,000 new infections per day… the measures that are being adopted are absolutely not sufficient. We are not in favour of a complete lockdown, but we support some of the measures that have been imposed in the Czech Republic and Slovenia, to reduce local transmission,” he said.
