The government on Monday rejected media headlines that it had all of a sudden called on citizens to donate in the fight against Covid-19, underscoring that the access point for anyone wishing to donate money and equipment has been online for eight months already.

“The government did not launch any initiative requesting donations from Croatian citizens,” the government posted on its Facebook profile, underlining that media reports that it has all of a sudden called on citizens to make donations are incorrect.

The government explained that due to a large number of prior enquiries by Croatian citizens and companies who expressed their wish to donate money and medical equipment in the fight against Covid-19, at the end of March already a single online access point was opened at http://koronavirus.hr.

The government underlined that the access point with information about donations has been active for eight months already but not as a call by the government on citizens, rather as a way of facilitating access for interested citizens who volunteer to donate money or medical equipment in the fight against Covid-19.

Media outlets on Sunday reported that a new section called “Donations” had appeared on koronavirus.hr, the official site for all the information related to the virus. When you click on that, the government’s official announcement appears calling on citizens to take part in the donation programme in the fight against coronavirus.
